Humans have many weaknesses. To take away the person or thing that they value the most will slowly drive them into abyss of insanity. Then again, humans are notorious liars. Though it seems that even though they are made aware of such a fact, their judgment is often clouded by denial. After all, the person that a human trusts the most, when commiting a lie, will deal the greatest blow. Why would you even want to waste your time? He's not worth your time to do anything. Move on in life and you'll be more than likely to find someone much better.
